The National Honor Society at Legacy

The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states of the country. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. Some requirements for NHS are being at least a sophomore, having a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, and possessing outstanding leadership characteristics!

Currently, LCA’s National Honor Society has five members: Franchesca Yohan (our president), Kelsie Ramirez (our vice president), Caris Payne, Jeremiah Mookie, and Molly Engel. Legacy started their NHS program in March of 2020. The first group of inductees were unable to have an official welcoming ceremony due to the pandemic lockdown; however, Adviser Mr. Sharrer and Mrs. Cowan made sure to congratulate them in front of the High School.

Each semester, NHS members go out into the community to serve! Last semester the options for a community service project were limited; however, they were able to donate goods and necessities to Magdalene Hope. Magdalene Hope strives to bring awareness of the social justice issues of human trafficking and modern-day slavery while educating women of the grace, hope, healing, and freedom in Christ Jesus (https://magdalenehope.org/about-us/). Last month, members visited Wind Wolves Preserve where they planted trees!

A new group of inductees will be announced later this month.
