Baseball and Softball for Girls in the time of Covid

Have any of you wondered why girls aren’t allowed to play baseball this year? We know many students have and whether there is a valid reason. According to Legacy Administrator Mrs. Cowan, “We really didn’t have a choice; we had to follow our protocols for health and safety for Covid and so right now we are still in the purple tier which limits the type of sports that can be played . . .”

Even though this year is different, some girls are upset and confused on why they can’t play baseball this year. A few have even wondered whether they should have gotten a choice between playing baseball or softball. Mrs. Cowan adds, “We knew that some people would probably be disappointed but sometimes we have to make the choice to move forward even if the circumstances are out of your control. So we could either cancel everything and not do anything or we could problem solve and be creative in the things that we are doing.”

With everything going on in the world today, we are very lucky to even be allowed to play sports. All of the schools in the Kern High School District aren’t even on campus for classes, so for us to be on campus and playing sports, we are very fortunate.
